Obsession - Back to the beginning yet again

After finding that last collage of the watermelon I believe I have an idea. I would have six photos, similar to that of the last image, but have six images of buses. The six buses I catch every weekend to get to my boyfriends. Those buses mean nothing to anyone else but to me they are special. Again my only problem is if when I finish it it's boring. However, I will still give it a go and see how it turns out. Samples are always welcome, haha.

Similar to my bag sample I made a sample using the images of my street sign. This links to travel because its the street I have traveled to and from all my life. I would also take photos of other street signs, maybe random ones, or streets which have meaning to me. Maybe the streets I walk down every day.

This image of a dog is amazing! I want to do this. I love the colours and everything about this. I could get a photo of my cat and mix in my red images, mixing in too ideas? How crazy! I will try out this technique and see what fun things I can create.

I also found this other website with a simple yet great collage. This collage is just of six images which all link becasue they are of the same thing but from different angles. The colour of the watermelon and snow work great together!

Here is a sample which I did about my cat, its a quick sample so it isn't amazing quality. In this sample I have made my cat red because it is my favourite colour. Also, I love my cat and cats in general alllllot.

Obsession - Photos yet again?

First ideas are usually the best.
Okays, looking back at my images from my samples I am drawn back to that 'technique' of distoring the image. BUT what do I take photos of I hear you cry? That, I still don't know. I'm wandering into the theme of colour. Red is my favourite colour by far. Should I take photos of red things? MY HEAD JUST EXPLODED. Okays, What if I take lots of photos of red things then put them all together to make a big pile of redness. A image made up of hundreds of things, the only thing in common is the colour. Still, i'm not too sure. Would it work or even look good? I must try it out. I've started taking photos of red things. Maybe I could just have a book with a hundred red items. PHOTO COLLAGE. The images will make a photo collage. When I finish my final piece I shall put it up here. The image above is an example of how my work could look. A huge mix of reds. This could be good.

Disorting images, like in my samples, is something which I really really liked. But i'm stuck on what to distort. I need to think. What am I obsessed with.
Distoring things. Changing them. You can't tell what it is. Making it different. Making something new. Making something boring interesting.

Obsession - Film.

Sound and film.

Okays, my ideas now involve sound and film. This is because of my obsessions. My obsession with writing. I have to write things down to explain myself, cause I don't talk. Talking? could that be the sound. My obsession with writing means I don't speak. Mixing the two things. Music, i'd like that in the background.

An obsession with someone, myself? A book obsessed with somebody. Thats kinda straying into sketchbook stuff. But what if I made a film about it? The process of the obsession growing. How it goes deeper and darker? Obsession and love. Where is the line?

Obsession - Idea change again?

Okay after going through my latest idea I've come to the conclusion that I wouldn't have a lot of images and it could be short. HOWEVER, I shall still complete it because it could be a make a good final piece. So i'm going back to my obsession with writing. However, i may involve my travel obsession too.
My idea so far is to take snap shots and make a film with them. I would make a film of images running through a book (Not actually running). The book could go through all my obsessions, I want it to be colourful and interesting. I've even thought of making my own music for it. Go me. Another idea was to have me narrate it but I'm still not sure. I need to come up with a script/plan of what will go in the book then I can start filming and getting it all together.

Also, to stick with my photo ideas, I'm looking into things which I'm obsessed with. The only things I can think of are Cats and I love the colour red, love it sooooooooooooo much. So i could do a book full of like 100 images of red things, anything which is red. Also, i'm obsessed with cats, so again I could have a book full of images of cats. Or just of one cat. My cat. Mog.
A book full of 100 images of one cat, I love my cat. Bailey also has a cat which I obsess over. He's called Oscar. So should I take photos of both of them or just one? My cat mog would win.

I just found this amazing collage of images in the form of a cat. I could do this with images of my cat. However, this would be copying the idea without changing it for me and making it personal.

Obsession - Even more samples!

This is my second sample and try at this technique. This is my desk. Very messy. But great for a busy image. Using the same technique as my last sample I made this. By doing this second sample I can see faults. I must keep the angle of the image the same or they wont slot together. The distance can change a bit and I want it to change so it gives the image a distorted view. I don't want it to be a perfect picture which all slots together because that would be pointless and boring. I want to image to look distorted so it looks interesting and it also makes the view look at it more because their trying to work out what it is. My next step is to start on some of my final pieces. These pieces will be linked to my obsession with travel. I will use images of street posts, streets, houses, bus stops. Things which anybody else would look at and just see what it is. But to me I will be seeing memories and these images will have emotions in them for me. I will make a book full of these images. Boring places. But to me they are very important. These places have made me the person I am today.

Okays, so i have finally made a sample of my idea! However, this is only a sample and doesn't link to the final pieces I want to make. The sample piece is of my bag, my final pieces will link to travel. The process of making it wasn't as hard as I thought so I feel confident for my final piece's!!

Obsession - Back to the drawing board

Post it what?

Okay, so after testing out my post it idea last night I saw that it didn't hold as much potential that I thought it would. So i'm back to my travel idea. My idea now is to take 20+ images of one thing, such as a street sign, but take photos from different distances. After I had taken the photos, i would print them out and stick them all together to make a full image. I would stick this on a wall or a piece of paper if small enough. However, I also got the idea to do a 360 view of a street which is important to me. Like my street or my boyfriends. I would do separate pieces of just the houses, street signs and bus stops also so i have a range of samples. To make the 360 view I would need a room or I'd have to make a circular wall to stick them all on. Hummm. I need to figure out how I make that.

I've already started to take photos of my bag, which will just be a sample, but i will print the images of and stick them together to make my first sample. I shall upload it when its finished.

Obsession - Idea Re-Think

So many ideas, so little time

Right, i've now started to come up with a lot of ideas, but there all based around each other. I've come up with the idea but not gone out and actually taken and started doing samples (Which is why i'm stil a little stuck). With the ideas i have know I will start to make samples and see which idea comes out with the best result. My ideas have changed a little since my last ones so i'll write them all up. Also, i'll be scanning in work from my notebook about this project.

I'm obsessed with you. This idea is to take the phrase 'I love you' and change it to 'I'm obsessed with you' and write it everywhere and take photos. This idea came from my view on how love and obsession can be very close; like love and hate. I'd write this on walls, floors anything really. Another idea was to write it on post it notes and stick them everywhere and take photos.

Post it notes. After thinking about them in my last idea I thought of all the other things i could write on them. Compliments or insults. Thoughts or feelings. One of my obsessions is writing i've discovered. I can't get enough of it. So my idea was to, when ever i have an interesting thought or feeling, i would write them down and stick it too whatever is next to me. I have a page in my notebook all about this so i will put that in here. Then i would make the photo black and white, except for the note which would stay in colour.

I had other passing ideas which i wrote down in my notebook so I will scan them and get them on here very soon.

Obsession - New Idea

Idea of a film?

Right....Now I'm stuck. After much thought I'm still stuck on an idea for this project. I've even started thinking about film, photography seems like my final plan then I see a video and want to do film. My idea around film is to tell a story through images. I'd go around town and other area's to find the words i need. I'll write down a scrip first and then take short 3 second films of the words then put them all together. I would then narrate over this. I want to film each word so the words aren't flat and it gives the film movement even though its just words and a narrator.

Thinking about this, I get the idea to do animation kinda. So instead of just finding the words, I'd right them down but do it through stop motion/animation. Again, to give this film movement i'd film the images and maybe use a range a materials. Or maybe where I right the words. On paper, walls, tables, hands. Hummm.

I will try both these out and see which one would be the best. FIRST I need to decide on an idea around what type of obsession I will film about.

Obsession - Idea Planning

Come on now, think of something

So far i have a couple of ideas in my head but i'm still unsure as to what i'm going to do.

I like the idea of being obsessed with a colour or number. Taking photos of it where ever i can find it. But, what will that number or colour be? 13 is an unlucky number, maybe that. I may take photos of numbers running up to 100 from all the places i can find them.

Colours, i could take photos of the same colour where ever i can find it.

Telling a story through pictures/words, for example, 'Welcome/2/the/book' All the words would be from different images.

Obsession with money, photos of prices.

Find a word! Decide on a word to photograph and try and find it around Nottingham and Leeds.

Happy.

Try to find happiness in the town, find emotions! Sad, angry, happy. Maybe? I'm still unsure. Bad words? Graffiti? Who knows. Taking photos of one thing is appealing but what? I'm still so unsure. Photos of happy families in shop windows, photos of women and men. Obsession with someone? Something?

Photos from the point of view of an animal. For some reason that popped into my head. I love animals. Town from the point of view of a pigeon. I could do this, i may get stood on in the process but could it work. I'll try it out and see what happens.

There are a few different techniques i can use for this project so I shall list them all and then talk about which ones appeal to me.

All these techniques are interesting but with the time and skills i have i know i'll be able to make something great with photography. Film would be an amazing experience but i wouldn't know what to make, and when i did decide it may be too late. Stop motion would take a long time and again, without a solid theme yet i wouldn't know what to do with it. Animation is a big part of my life because of my interest in anime, but i don't believe i have the skills to do this yet. A flip book would take along time and is similar to animation so i may struggle with this if i try to do it. Motion graphics are videos which tell a story through images. I could make the images yes, but i don't believe i have the skills to put it all together as a video yet. However, motion graphics are something i love and i want to develop my skills to make one.

Obsession - Even more ideas

Still working on an idea

After the excitement of yesterday has calmed down i've decided i need to work on more then one idea. My first idea is good but its my first, so i need others to work with. So i went back to my list of what obsession is and started to come up with more ideas.

The ideas which really jumped out at me were 'words'. Photographing words i find in town, or photos of images found in town. Such as, women or happy families or even feet. I also got the idea of take photos of money, prices on clothes. Photos of clothes, from expensive to affordable. Also, taking photos of clothes all with the same colour. Words, images and colour are the main themes i'd want to work with.

Tell a story through pictures of words found in town and streets. Count from 1-100 of pictures of numbers from streets, buses and house. Again photography is the main technique i'm interested in and i'm sure i will work in this medium. However, i'll still research into other medias incase i find something I will like.

I've finally got an idea so i can finally do some research, the world is great! I've looked into the book 'Boring Postcards' by Martin Parr because this seems like something i would make as a final piece. I'm planning on buying the book or trying to find the images online but its hard to find them. However, i found this image which is from the book. If i buy the book i will upload more pictures from the book.

Looking for work

I've started to look for websites which link to my ideas so far. I have found a website called http://www.travelblog.org/ which is a website with hundreds of people blogging about their travels around the world. I've read through a few of the blogs and they are really interesting. While i'm sat at college there are people from around the world traveling to this country to see its unique beauty.

'The Good Old Fashioned Country Side'.

That just came to my mind, oddly. Photos of old building and beautiful fields, then photos of busy towns and building. Showing two worlds together. Living side by side. Could this be my project?? I Travel from Nottingham and Leeds a lot so I will be able to get a range of different images.

Could the theme just be old and new? Boring streets and places which are important to me, PERSONAL! I found it. Places which are seen as just streets or buses to some people are really important to me. Streets, street names, buses, coaches, pavements, bus stations (which i spend forever in). This could be it! A boring book of random places, but for me there important, there important to someone. There not just streets. AHHHH, this could be it!

Finally....

Through this method i could film each journey and use the sounds which i hear. The bell on the bus, people taking, babies crying. Things which I hear all the time, which are part of my life. Annoying noises, cars, traffic.

Its a love story. Properly the most boring one you'll see.

Obsession - Working on ideas

So, i'm still a little stuck on the whole project. I understand the word but i just can't think of anything to do with it. I know what media I want to use and thats photography but i'm still unsure about the theme i'm going to work with.

Obsession can be a positive thing, such as i'm obsessed with my pet cat because i love cats and i love her. I love her attitude and how she's so selfish. These human qualities is what makes cats so appealing to me. I also have a love for woodlice. I've had it since i was a toddler, its a weird love. I'm also obsessed with my boyfriend Bailey. This is mainly because he's done so much for me without knowing, I know that if we were to break up i'd stalk him. Haha, thats a joke, don't' worry. I want to know everything about him. Its a nice obsession, about somebody who i love.

I also thought abut taking photos of people i don't know, a bit stalker-ish, and filling a sketchbook full of people. This would be about people's lives, how we all go along with our life's not noticing each other. The book would be there to celebrate life, not just mine and my friends but everybody's. It would be like getting loads of family photos and putting them all together. They wouldn't know each other, but in this book there connected.

Another thought was taking photos of things i want or may be of things i need, such as Food, water, clothes and other things. Things i want could be food and clothes too, but could be money, a perfect family and other things. Something i don't have. Something i need.

There is a book called 'Boring Postcards' by Martin Parr which is just what it says, a book full of boring postcards. This is an idea which interested me. I could focus of a theme, such a food, and take hundreds of photos of food, or food shops. Also shops, i could take hundreds of photos of shops, such a pound land, shops that people don't focus on. In leeds, me and my boyfriend counted 14 greggs, that town is obsessed with pasty. I could photo everyone of them, and all the other pasty shops.

Right now i'm still thinking and i'm still unsure as to where the is project is going to take me.

Obsession - My obsessions

What am I obsessed with?

I wrote before about two things which i am obsessed with and looking back I know I have more obsessions. Cats and travel are at the top of my list but i also have other things Im obsessed with. I love clothes and fashion but I'm too poor to buy all the things i want but i enjoy looking at fashion magazines and watching shows about fashion. However, i'm not sure how i would do a project around this theme.

Chips are my favourite food! And i will admit i'm obsessed with them. I could make a book just full of images of chips. Boring but they are something i couldn't live without. Sad, I know.

Another thing i really like is anime and manga, i guess you could say I get obsessed with fiction people who don't really exists but to me they do. Also, cosplay is a way for people to become people who aren't real but they act and dress like them. However, again i'm not sure how i could work with this theme and this is something which is a personal interest so i don't want to use this is my work.

There is a game called 'Umineko No Naku Koro Ni' which is a visual novel and they make beautiful motion graphics at the end of each game. The most recent one is vol.8

Day 2 - What is an obsession?

After a long hard thought i realized that i still didn't have a clue about obsessions and what i could do. Because of this i sat down and listed all the things i thought about when i thought of 'obsession' and all the things that link from that. I also looked into stories, films and songs about obsession to develop some ideas.

Obsession - First ideas.

Obsession ideas

The project theme or word is 'Obsession' which is a very broad word. When i think of obsession i think of a person or a thing which is obsessed with somebody or something. However, things such as daily routine can be an obsession because you do it everyday at a certain time. The first idea which came to my head was my daily routine because this is something that nobody else sees but me. It would also show people a side of me they have never seen or wouldn't believe. I would show this through a series of images or a film, if a film it would just have the background noise and no added sounds. The film would jump from clip to clip showing me doing things i do everyday.

However, the word obsession is very interesting and i want to make something which will interest the people viewing it. To do this i believe it needs to be personal, something they haven't seen before. I don't really have a lot of things i'm obsessed with except for cats and travel.

Cats are a big thing in my life and i aspirer to become a mad cat lady in life so the film could be about that. However, that is just an idea, a fun one, but i wouldn't know what to do with it yet.

Travel is a big part of my life because i travel every other weekend up to Leeds to visit my boyfriend. I'm a really big nerd when it comes to traveling, i love bus, car, train, coach journeys and even walking. I love to be able to just sit or walk and not have to worry about things. To do nothing except listen to music and watch the world go by. I love it. Im very much a observer in life and enjoying being one. I take the time to look at the world go by, i notice things and people as they go by in the life. Were both alive but they don't even notice me, its normal to just ignore this beautiful world were in. The trees, the amazing shapes they make through the branches and the endless fields which make this country so unique. I watch as hundreds of cars go pass with hundreds of life's in them, seeing that there alive. And if one of those cars were to crash further along there travel, would i be sad? Would i even know? Things happen every day and we ignore them because there seen as normal but everything in this world is amazing and i enjoy every second of life. Life at this moment in time isn't the best but thats what life is about, i think its important for everybody to just, at least once a day, to stop what there doing and just look outside or even go outside and just watch. Watch as the world keeps on going, without you doing a thing, people will keep on walking and talking, birds will keep on flying, even though you have stopped. This a major obsession for me and i would love to do something with it.

I want to make this personal and about me but there is someone in my life whom gets obsessed very easily and that is my boyfriend Bailey. He gets obsessed with a new game every couple of months and i have noticed this through the two years we have been together, he sees it too but games are a big part of his life because he is on a gaming programing course. From this i could make a film of a computer screen clipping to every game he has become obsessed with other the last two years, and trust me I remember them all...

Obsession - What are Ideas and Concepts?

New project!

No Sketchbooks? How cruel! I neeeeeed to write and draw or i'll just explode! But fear not, for this project i shall be making a blog to follow along side my work which is actually a really interesting way to do it. Its also easier and i don't need to waste hundreds of pounds on print credits! Woo!

Today we started on our new project, however, we mainly spoke about ideas and concepts and the difference between them. I'm still a little unsure about the differences so i'll be doing a quick little research on them. These definitions are found from google.

Definitions of idea on the Web:

• the content of cognition; the main thing you are thinking about; "it was not a good idea"; "the thought never entered my mind"
• mind: your intention; what you intend to do; "he had in mind to see his old teacher"; "the idea of the game is to capture all the pieces"

Definitions of concept on the Web:

After looking quickly into the different definitions i can see a difference between the two words so i feel i am able to start with the project.
